AMAZING
Best concert ever! I have been attending concerts for more than 40 yrs now, and I have seen some incredible shows that have been good, but Sara Bareilles are in a league all of their own. Dave Grohl announced early on that the FF's don't believe in encores, they just play until they are DONE, and he was absolutely correct.
The beauty and the complexity of FF is that they are truly a sum of all parts. If you are an old timer like me, you may remember the first FF album which was really just Dave. Dave may get all/most of the credit, but I can't imagine FF being as effective as they are without Pat, Nate, Chris, and Taylor. FF without the rest of the band would just be a head with no body, now a genius head nonetheless, but it still takes this body to make this band work. It took several albums for the band to gel. If you are older, you may also remember the dark days when Pat Smear left the band, ooooh, gives me the creepy chills just thinking about it.
From the opening salvo of "Everlong", FF took us on a 2 1/2 hour nonstop joyride down 20 years of music history. Dave admitted the band was starting to run out of material in the last third of the show and asked the audience what they wanted to hear? Without trying to be greedy, in spite of all the great tunes I have heard tonight, I thought I would leave here disappointed if they don't play "These Days". Dave and I apparently share the psychic bond because that is indeed what they played next. Dave's injury didn't slow him down or affect the show one bit. Dave was still the same taut, frenetic ball of energy he always has been whether he was standing or sitting, Dave is still Dave.
I almost didn't go. I bought the ticket a million years ago, and some sad things have happened in my life since then. For one night, I was able to escape my reality. I have analyzed this concert more than once, and it really was the concert of a lifetime.
